New Patients
As a new patient, we want to know everything about your dental history. Knowing what you want, will help us understand what you need.
Whether you are visiting a dentist for the first time, or want a dentist with more experience for the treatment you want, Birch Dental Practice is always happy to help.
A general check-up can help prevent expensive treatments and excessive pain if we can detect any problems early on. We will check your teeth, gums and soft tissue (cheeks and tongue) to make sure that they remain healthy and provide advice on how you can keep them maintained at home.
Give us a call, or email us to book an appointment and we can discuss what you would like us to do. Whether its special treatment or something that’s more cosmetic, we will get your smile perfected.
Your Oral Health Check
Where prevention is better than the cure, Birch Dental Practice will check every part of your mouth to make sure that they are healthy, and will remain healthy going forward. We will check your teeth, gums and soft tissue (cheeks and tongue) to monitor the health of your teeth and provide preventive measures to avoid tooth decay and infections.
Birch Dental Practice offer a choice of routines for your routine dental check-ups, from NHS dental care where available, and comprehensive private options where a combination of dental check-ups and hygiene appointments will keep your smile perfect.
Keeping Your Gums Healthy
As part of the thorough examination process, Birch Dental Practice will examine the very foundations of your teeth, the gums.
As the build-up of plaque (also know as tartar or calculus) prevents the natural enamel to shield the teeth from infections, excess plaque releases harmful poisons causing the gums to be irritated and inflamed.
If not treated properly, the bone supporting the teeth become weaker and will no longer hold support and can become looser, causing them to fall out.
After regular oral hygiene at home, Birch Dental Practice can be the second line of defence to maintain the health of your gums and teeth.
Don't Act Too Late, Prevent It!
Regular brushing of your teeth can prevent dental problems, such as dental cavities, Gingivitis, gum disease and infections which can spread into the root of teeth.
Cleaning regularly means that:
- Your teeth are clean and free of debris
- Gums are pink and do not hurt or bleed when you brush or floss
- Bad breath is not a constant problem
Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well-being.
Daily preventive care, including proper brushing and flossing, will help stop problems before they develop and is much less painful, expensive, and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress.
In between regular visits to our practice, there are simple steps that can greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. These include:
- Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
- Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
- Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
- Rinsing with a fluoride mouth-rinse
Birch Dental Practice can help you learn good oral hygiene techniques and can help point out areas of your mouth that may require extra attention during brushing and flossing. Prevention is always better than the cure.
