Teeth can be straightened with orthodontics (braces). This is usually done during the teenage years, when the jaws are going through a period of growth. However, many adults also have treatment to straighten their crooked teeth or to improve their appearance. The treatment can take much longer in adults and can be more costly
Some people have clear or plastic braces, which are hardly noticeable. If you are considering orthodontic treatment, contact Birch Dental Practice for a consultation, and we can talk to you about your treatment.
Though fitting a brace is not painful, it can be common to experience sore teeth for 3-5 days after the first fitting and each adjustment appointment with us.
To prevent damage to both your teeth and fitted brace, you will need to:
- Avoid sugary drinks & food between meals and bedtime.
- Avoid chewy, hard sweets, mints and chewing gum.
- Avoid fizzy drinks and large amounts of fruit juice.
- Avoid hard or chewy foods such as apples, carrots and crusty bread.
